ETS states the test is 'accepted at thousands of graduate, business and law schools worldwide' and measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills. Figures below describe the shortened GRE General Test in effect from 22 September 2023 onward, as published for the 2025-26/2026-27 cycles.

How the paper is built.
- GRE General Test (single sitting)
No negative marking. ETS states 'the raw score is the number of questions you answered correctly' for Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning, so each correct answer contributes one raw point and wrong or unattempted answers neither add nor subtract. The raw score is then converted to the reported 130-170 scaled score by equating, which 'accounts for minor variations in difficulty among the different test editions as well as the differences in difficulty introduced by the section-level adaptation.' Because of equating and adaptation, a fixed raw-to-scaled conversion table does not exist. Analytical Writing is not marked this way: the essay is scored on a 6-point holistic scale by a trained analyst together with the e-rater scoring engine. Note: the integers above are raw-score points, not published 'marks' — ETS does not publish a marks total for the GRE.
There is no penalty for a wrong answer, so the break-even accuracy is zero — any answer is weakly better than a blank, and you should never leave a GRE question unanswered, however wild the guess.
The calendar, and who can sit it.
- Qualification
- ETS publishes no minimum academic qualification, degree requirement or work-experience requirement for the GRE General Test. The operative requirement on test day is acceptable identification.
- Attempts
- Once every 21 days, up to five times within any continuous rolling 12-month period (365 days). This applies even if scores were cancelled on a previous attempt.
- Nationality
- Open to candidates of any nationality. ID requirements depend on where the candidate tests and their country of citizenship; the primary ID must generally be a government-issued national/state/province identity card recognised by the country of citizenship or permanent residence, bearing photograph, signature and the full name as registered. ETS has a separate documented process for candidates with refugee or political-asylum status.

How do I start preparing for the GRE in JupiteX?

Open Learn and choose Quantitative Reasoning. Browse the topics grouped by area and open the one you need. Work through its learning cards and explanations, then use an available Quant practice set to check whether you can apply the method independently.
How do I study GRE Verbal Reasoning inside JupiteX?
Open Learn, choose Verbal Reasoning and select a topic such as Reading Comprehension or Text Completion from the available list. Read its cards and explanations, then attempt a relevant practice set. Use Vocab alongside this work when unfamiliar words are part of the difficulty.
Does JupiteX have a GRE vocabulary section?
Yes. Open Vocab to see the vocabulary overview, words due for review and the word of the day. Start a review session to practise recall, or open the featured word to read its details. Vocab is separate from the Verbal topics in Learn.
How do I use GRE vocabulary review in JupiteX?
Open Vocab and start the due review session. Try to recall the word before revealing its meaning, then choose Again, Hard, Good or Easy to describe your recall. The app uses your response to schedule another review, so rate what you remembered rather than how familiar the word looks afterward.
Where can I see a GRE word's meaning and related words?
Open the word of the day from Today or Vocab. Its detail screen includes the available definition and usage information, synonyms, antonyms and recall history. Use the review action when you want to practise remembering words rather than just read their details.
Where can I study GRE Analytical Writing in JupiteX?
Open Learn and choose Analytical Writing, then open an available topic and its learning material. Use it to study how an argument is developed and organised. Treat this as learning content; it does not mean that submitting your own essay will receive an official ETS grade.
How do I start a GRE practice test in JupiteX?
On the web, open Drill to browse the available practice sets or Mocks for full-test options. On mobile, open Mock. Select a published test to begin, complete the attempt and submit it to see the report. The available sets are listed in the app.
What is the difference between GRE Learn and Vocab?
Learn organises GRE concepts and explanations by section and topic. Vocab focuses on learning and reviewing words, including a due-review queue and recall ratings. Use Learn for understanding a question type and Vocab for strengthening the word knowledge you bring to it.
What should I do after finishing a GRE practice test?
Read the report and inspect the missed questions and explanations. Return to the relevant Learn topic for concept gaps, or Vocab for words you could not recall. Follow that review with another suitable set rather than relying only on the headline practice score.
Where can I see how my GRE preparation is going?
Open Today to see the available performance overview and next study actions. It also gives you a route into vocabulary review and Learn. Practice results depend on recorded attempts, so a new account may need completed sets before the overview becomes informative.
Are the GRE scores shown in JupiteX official ETS scores?
No. Scores and projections shown in JupiteX are practice feedback. Use the report to choose which topics to revisit in Learn and which sets to attempt next. They do not replace an official GRE result or guarantee a score on test day.
