NEET-UG
Conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA), which has conducted NEET (UG) since 2019 with the approval of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and the Ministry of Education. The test is mandated as a common, uniform national entrance test under Section 14 of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 (and the corresponding sections of the NCISM Act 2020 and NCH Act 2020). The syllabus is notified by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Single national entrance test for admission to undergraduate medical and allied courses in India: MBBS, BDS, and the AYUSH courses BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BHMS, plus B.Sc. Nursing at selected central institutes. The NEET score is also used for admission to BVSc & AH (veterinary) courses under the 15% VCI quota in recognised veterinary colleges. Indian citizens and OCI cardholders who intend to pursue an undergraduate medical or dental course at a foreign institute must also qualify NEET (UG).

How the paper is built.
- NEET (UG) written test
- Counselling and seat allotment
+4 for a correct or most appropriate answer, -1 for any incorrect option marked, 0 for unanswered. Official wording: '(i) Correct answer or the most appropriate answer: Four marks (+4) (ii) Any incorrect option marked will be given minus one mark (-1). (iii) Unanswered: No mark (0).' The bulletin also specifies remedies for defective questions: if more than one option is correct, +4 goes to candidates who marked any of the correct options; if all options are correct, +4 goes to all who attempted; and if no option is correct, or the question is wrong or dropped, all candidates who appeared receive +4 whether or not they attempted it.
A guess only adds marks if you are right more than once in every five guesses, so a blind pick from four options (25%) is marginally positive and eliminating even one option makes attempting clearly worthwhile — but wild guessing on questions you cannot narrow at all is close to a coin-flip against you.
The calendar, and who can sit it.

- Pass in 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as a compulsory subject, including practical tests in the science subjects. The bulletin recognises seven qualifying-examination codes (01-07), which also cover the Pre-professional/Pre-medical examination, the first year of a three-year degree course with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology, and a B.Sc. with at least two of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, in each case provided the earlier qualifying examination was passed with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. A candidate whose qualifying-examination result has not yet been declared may be provisionally permitted to sit the test, but cannot be admitted to a course until the eligibility criteria are met.

- Attempts
- No limit. The Information Bulletin prescribes no restriction on the number of attempts — this is established by the absence of any such restriction in the official bulletin, not by an explicit NTA sentence saying so. Candidates may appear as often as they wish provided they continue to meet the other eligibility criteria.
- Nationality
- Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and Foreign Nationals are all eligible to appear. NRI and OCI applicants must upload supporting documentary proof, and Foreign Nationals must furnish a certificate from the competent authority in their country of nationality.
